Earlier this year, David Hall Dixon, 42, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges after he opened fire in April 2021, striking James Johnson, 38, and Dominique Williams, both of whom died from their injuries.

On Thursday, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced that Dixon has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting to the double shooting in September.

Officers from the Takoma Park Police Department were called to the Takoma Overlook Apartment Complex on New Hampshire Avenue in Montgomery County shortly after 5 a.m. on April 7, 2021, where there was a reported shooting with two men down.

According to court documents, Dixon said he was leaving for work with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency when he spotted a late-model Lexus with its headlights missing in the parking lot of the complex, which he believed was occupied by a person linked to a break-in at the lot.

He stated that he spotted one person breaking the window of a vehicle, and when he confronted them, they "gassed it" and tried to run him over, prompting him to fire several shots at the vehicle, which was hit several times by the hail of bullets.

The driver, Michael Thomas, was able to get away and took Williams and Johnson to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival, while Thomas abandoned the Lexus and fled from the area.

Following the shooting, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that both Williams and Johnson were killed after being shot from behind in their back and upper body.

Their deaths were ruled a homicide by investigators.
